Rotoscoping is an animation technique that animators use to trace over motion picture footage, frame by frame, to produce realistic action. In essence, rotoscoping is a technique that goes back to the early days of cinema, when animators would trace live action footage projected frame-by-frame onto paper, either to use as motion reference or directly copy into their work.

The squash and stretch principle is considered the most important of the 12 principles of animation. When applied, it gives your animated characters and objects the illusion of gravity, weight, mass and flexibility. It can be applied to simple objects, like a bouncing ball, or more complex constructions, like the musculature of a human face.

In animation, a walk cycle is a series of frames or illustrations drawn in sequence that loop to create an animation of a walking character. The walk cycle is looped over and over, thus having to avoid animating each step again. Walk cycles encapsulate all of the principles of animation. They also deal with complex issues of weight and timing, in order to be convincing. Offsets, Overlap and Follow Through on every joint are what will keep the motion natural and prevent it from looking robotic.

For this project, we tell a story of a teenage 'kampung' boy named Ahmad who despises his traditions as a shadow puppet maker. In efforts to convey his frustration, he breaks a family heirloom shadow puppet and is sucked into a shadow puppet paradox. Upon getting there, he meets a girl named Siti. Soon, Siti becomes a companion to Ahmad and they both embark on an adventure to return Ahmad to Earth. They are faced with various hurdles but overcome it together as a team. With this progression in mind, Ahmad and Siti begin to slowly show feelings for each other.

Motion graphics is animation, but with text as a major component. Essentially, it’s animated graphic design. Motion graphics are a way to communicate with the viewer, and add depth to the story. Together with music and effective copy, they can give us a message.
Project: "Never Forget Your Inner Child"

This project requires us to create a short 3D animation based on our own concept. Based on my concept, I created a snow globe that is full of joy and memories that we used to have during our childhood years. Colorful balloons, toy soldiers, toy trains, merry-go-round, everything reminds us of pure joy of being a child. When we grow up, become adults or whatever you’d like to call it, we lose something we have only as kids. Keeping a little bit of your inner child means having a joyous life without a conscious need to look for it. Grow to be better, but never forget your inner child to make you happy.
